Seriously, farming is a delicate subject in a sense, but like I have been saying it's not the farming nerfs that have affected the playerbase more.(at least i think so) It rather the lack of things, lack of variety, except to do missions, quests, missions, quests and wash rinse and repeat.
QFT

Farming is (MOST OF THE TIME) a result of lack of other cool stuff to do. But I also like to farm between stuff. Like I always did a mission, I farmed some, bought keys from my farmed cash, went to chest run, enjoyed my new items, sold them to merch and went to do mission again ETC.

Yep, life was good back then... Freedom ftw

Well, PvE is pretty much just like playing RPG games, you can only play it so much before it can get boring. Then you start to farm. Or, you go to PvP until the next chapter comes out. That's what i do anyways. If I really get bored, I take a break from either GW and play a different game or take a break from games altogether.

They have not stopped solo farming or gold-selling on eBay. They have encouraged people to use more PvP-style tactics (snaring, spiking, interrupting), they have not really brought anyone from PvE to PvP, nor have they actually made snaring/spiking/interrupting necessary (you can still simply out-damage the mobs in most areas without bothering with anything else).

What have the AI changes achieved? In combo with various skill "balances" they've made most of the AoE skills mostly useless for their basic purpose (AoE damage) but still mildly useful for another purpose (aggro control/tactical manipulation of mobs). *shrug* Nothing that cannot be or hasn't been addressed successfully by players, but still -- I cannot honestly say that any of the AI changes have improved the game at all. At most they've made certain mobs take longer to kill, and at worst, they've run roughshod over a core profession (Elementalist), an entire class of skills spanning many professions (AoE damage), and driven away many players who didn't want to bother adapting.

Overall, I'd say the AI changes have been a waste of programming time and reflect poor choices by Anet. Yes, Anet's intentions have always appeared to be to discourage solo farming and to make PvE more like PvP/attract more PvE players into PvP. They've utterly failed at both, and only managed to get people upset with unnecessary changes that have done absolutely nothing to improve gameplay. I love this game, but seriously - the AI changes have been just plain moronic ever since November '05.
I agree with this as well. The AI changes actually made the PvE easier as fewer and fewer mobs are actually brutal and reckless. Anyone that has played EQ1 and heard of "reverse kiting" knows that this is an old, old, old tactic and a major step backwards in game play. However, in GW we see it considered an improvement? Wierd...

The whole PvE to PvP is getting old as well. I've tried the GW PvP and it's crap. Sorry, not my cup of tea as it reminds me of watching children play tag in my backyard. No changes to the game will suddenly make it fun, however the more the PvE becomes like it, the less likely I will purhcase any GW chapters... actually, unless the AI is "fixed" and Benny Hill is returned to TV re-runs; I have no plans on buying future chapters.

In sum, the only thing the AI changes have done for me and people I did group with, is encourage us to start paying for WoW and EQ2 accounts. GW is now nothing but a meeting chat room on Tuesdays when those servers go down.

What I love is how the game mechanics are just mind-bending.

Cast an AoE spell and all of the sudden, they move with cat like swiftness. I mean they get outta there real quick. It makes me think...cast a 25 cost spell for 1-2 seconds of damage...is it really worth it?

Monster Archers have this uncanny ability to drill you with every shot when running by them...

A few monsters that have no speed skills (equipped) can uncannily keep up to your running pace, even while under a buff.

I like chasing casters around like puppies...you must stop, turn away, and they come back to you.

the only thing is with puppies, there aren't 40 red dots all waiting to be aggroed....Because by the time you realize it's a lost cause and end chase -lol- you've gone and stirred up the hornet's nest.
